S’mores with a Ranger

State Parks, Campgrounds and S’mores are a summertime tradition.  Come down to the Berns Amphitheater at Crystal Cove State Park on Fridays, August 2 & August 23 from 7-8pm to Chat and Snack with a Ranger and learn about some of the nocturnal animals that live in the park.  Bring your S’more fixings and we’ll have the fire pit lit.  Meet at the Berns Amphitheater (PCH inland at stoplight School-State Park, follow signs towards the campground.)  $5 sunset rate.

Ancient Volcanoes Hike

Join a geologist on an Ancient Volcanoes Hike along the coastal side of Crystal Cove State Park & explore several of the parks volcanic features on Saturday, August 24 from 1:30-3:30pm.  Learn about the land/seascape setting 10-11 million years ago and then head out to observe some volcanic sites in the park. Meet at the Berns Amphitheater (PCH inland at stoplight School-State Park follow the signs to the Campground/Moro day use.)  $15 day-use fee.

Trailside Chat

Stop by and meet a Park Naturalist at a Trailside Chat table before starting a hike into the backcountry of Crystal Cove State Park on Sundays, August 4, 18, & 25 from 8am-11am.  Learn about some of the fun critters living in the park and reasons to stay on the trail.  Our Park Naturalist will be stationed at the Moro Canyon Trail Head near the Berns Amphitheater.  (PCH inland at stoplight School-State Park, follow signs towards the campground.) $15 day use…

Sunset Hike

Join Crystal Cove State Park docents for a 2-mile guided Sunset Hike on Saturday, August 17 or Friday, August 30 at 6:30pm.  Enjoy the rising moon over Moro ridge on this moderate one-hour hike.  Meet at the Berns Amphitheater (PCH inland at stoplight School-State Park, follow signs towards the campground.)  Wear sturdy shoes, bring water, and dress in layers.

Nature’s Bingo

Walk with a park interpreter and see if you can spot the plants and animals on Crystal Cove State Park’s Nature Bingo.  Walk the ½ mile Environmental Studies Loop Trail on Friday mornings August 16 & 30 from 10-11am to search for the natural treasures in the park. Meet at the Berns Amphitheater (PCH inland at stoplight School-State Park follow the signs to the Campground/Moro day use.)  $15 day-use fee.
