S’mores with a Ranger

State Parks, Campgrounds and S’mores are a summertime tradition.  Come down to the Berns Amphitheater at Crystal Cove State Park on Fridays, August 2 & August 23 from 7-8pm to Chat and Snack with a Ranger and learn about some of the nocturnal animals that live in the park.  Bring your S’more fixings and we’ll have the fire pit lit.  Meet at the Berns Amphitheater (PCH inland at stoplight School-State Park, follow signs towards the campground.)  $5 sunset rate.

Backcountry Navigation with Map & Compass – REI

During this field outing, our instructors will help you understand the information provided on your map, the proper use of your compass, and how to put the two together. You’ll learn about magnetic north, true north, and magnetic variation (declination). Junior Rangers

Ancient Volcanoes Hike

Join a geologist on an Ancient Volcanoes Hike along the coastal side of Crystal Cove State Park & explore several of the parks volcanic features on Saturday, August 24 from 1:30-3:30pm.  Learn about the land/seascape setting 10-11 million years ago and then head out to observe some volcanic sites in the park. Meet at the Berns Amphitheater (PCH inland at stoplight School-State Park follow the signs to the Campground/Moro day use.)  $15 day-use fee.
