#TakeBackTheCanyon
CCA’S APRIL INITIATIVE INVITE THE PUBLIC—PARTICULARLY CORPORATE VOLUNTEERS—TO HELP WITH THE PROBLEM OF INVASIVE SPECIES THREATENING MORO CANYON.Many of our programs in April focus on community development, and this month we’re incorporating those efforts with our growing corporate volunteer program, falling in line with our theme #takebackthecanyon. With more than 80 plants and a half-dozen animals that are invasive, the Park and natural resources staff can never have enough resources to rid the park of these species that disrupt the area’s natural habitat. Our corporate volunteers, in addition to the general public, play a key role in helping the staff remove non-native plants and animals so that the Park can flourish.
One of these groups—the Experian team—will be joining CCA on April 30 for its first corporate volunteer day in Moro Canyon. Their assignment for the day is to come into the canyon and help us remove mustard, a non-native plant that reproduces rapidly without restraining forces. This program is part of Experian’s efforts to connect its employees to the land. The next step in the mustard-removal process includes replanting the area with native plants and building Crystal Cove’s very own native seed bank.
In addition to corporate volunteers from Experian, other corporations, area students and after-school groups will make up the extended community that will help keep Crystal Cove’s ecosystems intact.
