Brent Castanon

Education Manager

Brent (he/him) joins Crystal Cove Conservancy with a variety of professional experience. After receiving his degree in Civil Engineering with an Environmental Emphasis, he worked in engineering consulting involving stormwater infrastructure for nearly three years. In 2021, Brent trained as an OC Parks Naturalist and began teaching STEM education classes throughout Orange County. Brent later received his master’s degree at the University of California, Irvine in Conservation and Restoration Science. While there, he furthered his expertise in plant ecology, ecosystem dynamics, and science communication. He originally started at Crystal Cove Conservancy as an Education Specialist in 2022. As of Winter 2025, he is the Education Manager for Terrestrial Programs at the Conservancy. The programs that he manages allow students to explore Crystal Cove’s backcountry, hone their skills as scientists, and understand what makes Crystal Cove such a special place.
