Reaching New Heights in the Cove Classroom

CRYSTAL COVE STATE PARK, CA – We’re thrilled to share the incredible growth and reach of Crystal Cove Conservancy’s education initiatives this year! Our Marine Protected Area (MPA) Science Expedition program recently celebrated a major milestone—serving its 20,000th student in March 2025.

Meanwhile, our Enhanced Whale Watching program reached 10,000 students in April, marking another exciting achievement. This school year also saw record-breaking participation: 6,664 in-person students, 43 interns (the most ever), 122 Natural Resource Internship applicants, and nearly 230 youth attending Camp Cove—our largest group yet.

These milestones reflect the power of partnership and purpose. For over a decade, we’ve collaborated with Newport Landing Sportfishing and other key partners to bring hands-on, immersive science education to students from first to twelfth grade. Whether it’s elementary students spotting whales on the water or high schoolers collecting marine data for real-world research, our programs are shaping the next generation of ocean stewards. Thanks to your continued support, we’re not only inspiring young minds—we’re advancing conservation, equity in education, and the long-term health of our coastal ecosystems.
