Love for the Land: Stewardship Saturday at Crystal Cove

Group of volunteers holding big bundles of removed, invasive Black Mustard plants

This Valentine’s Day, love for the land was in the air at Crystal Cove State Park. Fourteen volunteers — including Conservancy educators, California State Parks staff, and community members — gathered for our February Stewardship Saturday to help care for the landscapes we share.

Together, the group hiked into the park’s backcountry to support ongoing habitat restoration efforts. Participants prepared project sites and helped steward native landscapes that sustain the park’s diverse plant and wildlife communities.

Stewardship Saturdays invite people of all ages to connect with the natural history and beauty of Crystal Cove through hands-on conservation work. Whether clearing space for native plants or preparing restoration areas for the seasons ahead, each effort helps protect the park’s coastal ecosystems.

We’re grateful to this dedicated group of volunteers who chose to spend their Valentine’s Day caring for the land — a powerful reminder that stewardship is one of the greatest ways we can show love for the places that inspire us.
