JOIN US FOR A GRAND CELEBRATIONMARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR FEB. 1, THE MUCH-ANTICIPATED GRAND OPENING OF THE BERNS ENVIRONMENTAL STUDY LOOP AT CRYSTAL COVE STATE PARK.
The day we’ve all been waiting for is just around the corner: Crystal Cove Alliance (CCA) and California State Parks are excited to announce the grand opening of the Berns Environmental Study Loop (ESL) in Moro Canyon at the end of this month. The public opening will be held Feb. 1 from 1-6 p.m., and CCA invites everyone to stop by to explore the new suite of innovative hiking trails, campfire programs and family activities available at the ESL.
In addition to a special musical performance and interactive activities, the event will debut a new archeology citizen science walk and preview water-focused programs in advance of CCA’s
Spotlight innovative #snapshotWATER social media campaign taking place in March. It also serves as a kick-off celebration for California State Parks’ milestone 150th anniversary.
“We’ve been working for more than two years to design a completely new way for visitors and students to experience the park,” says CCA CEO Harry Helling. “The opening of the new Berns Environmental Study Loop in Moro Canyon will introduce a ground-breaking approach to involving visitors in the ‘behind-the-scenes’ science necessary to manage parks and open spaces.”
Funded in large part by a $1 million gift from philanthropists Michael and Tricia Berns, the study loop will be a resource for public visitors, afterschool groups, teachers, students and citizen scientists alike. With a new amphitheater, fire pit, student staging pavilion and half-mile loop trail with eight mini-field science stations, the ESL will provide countless ways for the public to be a part of the park’s “research and monitoring” team.
Parking and entrance to the ESL are free on Feb. 1, so bring the whole family and be among the first to explore the natural beauty of Moro Canyon and all the excitement the study loop will introduce to Crystal Cove.
