The Annual Crystal Cove Member Cruise is Almost Here!
It’s one of our favorite times of the year, and Crystal Cove Conservancy is hosting the sixth annual member whale watching cruise on two Saturdays in April. This yearly event is one of the many ways we say thank you to our generous supporters, inviting them out for a beautiful morning out on the water, enjoying the Crystal Cove Marine Protected Area, as well as giving everyone a first hand look at the programs our wonderful education team provides to nearly six thousand students per year.
Our flagship education program, the Marine Protected Area (MPA) Science Cruise, takes to the water each year, inviting thousands of junior high and high school students to help scientists and resource managers monitor Crystal Cove State Park’s Marine Conservation Area. In addition to spotting whales (hopefully), the member cruise also offers the opportunity to experience the MPA Science program in action.
The MPA Science Cruise program is run in partnership with Newport Landing Sportfishing in Newport Harbor. Since its inception in 2012, the program has grown quickly and is now serving more students than ever before. Many of the participating students come from underserved schools, whose participation is underwritten by generous donors who contributed to the program at our annual Soiree fundraiser held in early October.
Conservancy members at the Cove Keeper level or higher are eligible to participate in the annual cruise. An email invitation will be sent on March 9, 2020 announcing cruise dates. Members at the Cove Keeper ($100) and Cove Steward ($250) levels allow the member to bring along one guest. Members at the Cove Protector ($500), Cove Guardian ($1,000), or Cove Conservator ($2,500) level may invite up to three guests.
Don’t miss the boat! Become a member on or before March 9, 2020 to qualify for this year’s cruise. Two dates will be offered, space is limited, and an RSVP is required. To become a Crystal Cove Conservancy member, please click here.
