DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Parks Week at Crystal Cove State Park!  \nCalifornia State Parks Week (June 11-15\, 2025) is an exciting new annual event that celebrates the amazing diversity of California’s State Park System and the people who visit and help protect these iconic places.  \nAs part of Parks Week’s Explore New Experiences theme\, the Conservancy’s Grunion Run event provides a rare opportunity for participants to witness and learn about one of the coast’s most elusive creatures: the grunion. Marvel at the thrill of the grunion run—when these remarkable fish briefly come ashore to spawn—and delve into the wonders of Southern California’s dynamic marine ecosystems. Before venturing down to the beach\, warm up with hot chocolate and treats while Crystal Cove Conservancy educators share insights into this cryptic species\, coastal conservation\, and the vital role of Marine Protected Areas. If the night skies are clear\, the OC Astronomers will be on hand to guide you on a stargazing journey\, revealing celestial wonders overhead through their telescopes. Whether the grunion make an appearance or not\, you’ll leave feeling inspired and more deeply connected to our incredible coastline.  \nWhen: 9:30 PM -12:00 AM \nWhere to Meet: The Education Commons in the Crystal Cove State Park Historic District.   \nParking: Please park in the Los Trancos Parking Lot. DESCRIPTION:Every Thursday; June 26 – August 28 \nTime: 10:30 AM – 1:00 PM \nRegistration is not required \nThis weekly drop-in series invites visitors of all ages to engage with Crystal Cove through hands-on art and science activities that celebrate and explore local species and ecosystems. Participants might paint their vision of a healthy tidepool\, experiment with 3D watershed models to see how trash travels to the ocean\, or meet puppet ambassadors who share ways to help protect their habitats. Conservancy staff will be on hand to spark conversation and connect each activity to our broader work in conservation and K–college education. With new activities introduced throughout the summer\, families are invited to return often\, deepen their connection to the Cove\, and discover how they can help care for this extraordinary place.

Explore the impacts and challenges of climate change including fire ecology\, ecological restoration\, coastal engineering\, and marine conservation\, as well as native versus non-native species and their impact on natural communities and ecosystem functions. \n\nWhen: 10:30AM – 12:00PM \n\nWhere to Meet: Education Commons in the Historic District \n\nWhat to Bring: Sunscreen\, water\, hat\, and comfortable footwear suitable for walking on sand and paved trails. \nParking: Please park in the Los Trancos Parking Lot.
