SUMMARY:Trash to Treasure: Create Art from Ocean Plastics
DESCRIPTION:Get creative with a purpose!\nUsing recycled ocean plastics\, you’ll create your own coastal-inspired work of art while joining a conversation about ocean conservation\, plastic pollution\, and the work underway to protect the marine environment we all love. Come ready to create\, connect\, and see ocean plastics in a whole new way. \nThe workshop begins with a Crystal Cove Conservancy Conservation Biologist\, who will share how plastic pollution and marine debris impact marine life\, coastal habitats\, and the health of our ocean. Participants will then work alongside LOCA teaching artist Liz McGhee to create a nature-inspired artwork that transforms what they’ve learned into a creative expression of conservation and stewardship. \nWhether you’re an experienced artist or simply looking for a meaningful way to connect with nature\, Conservation Through Art offers an inspiring blend of science\, creativity\, and community. You’ll leave with your own artwork\, a deeper understanding of the challenges facing our coastline\, and simple ways you can help keep our beaches and ocean healthy. \n\n\n\nRecycled Plastic Mosaic\nSo many plastics in our daily lives are designed to be disposal and end up in our environment and landfills.  With this art project\, participants will create their own mosaic type collage with plastic tops and caps which serves both to recycle and utilize an otherwise disposable material\, and illustrate the variety and complexity of plastic waste in the marine ecosystem.  Participants will have the opportunity to make their own unique design or follow pre-drawn templates.  The class is offered in conjunction with LOCA Arts Education by LOCA instructor Elizabeth McGhee. \n  \nAll supplies will be provided. Class size is limited to 25 participants. Minimum age is 10. \n  \n< Back to Events Listing
