SUMMARY:Discovery Series: Nature Photography 101
DESCRIPTION:Members Only Event: Learn how to access exclusive member events and programs today! \n \nDiscover Crystal Cove State Park through a new lens during this immersive beginner friendly nature photography workshop led by renowned naturalist\, educator\, and photographer Bob “BugBob” Allen. \nThe evening will begin with an indoor presentation and discussion focused on the fundamentals of nature photography\, including composition\, lighting\, observation\, and finding compelling natural subjects. Participants will then head outdoors alongside Bob to photograph Crystal Cove’s scenic coastal bluffs\, native coastal sage scrub habitat\, and Historic District during the soft evening light of golden hour. \nDesigned for beginners and casual photographers alike\, this workshop emphasizes creativity\, curiosity\, and learning to better observe the natural world rather than technical camera instruction. Camera types are limited to digital devices\, including smartphones\, mirrorless cameras\, and DSLRs. Participants should already be familiar with the basic operation of their device. \nFollowing the outdoor photography session\, the group will return indoors for a collaborative photo share and discussion. \nMeeting location: Cottage #34\, Crystal Cove State Park Historic District \n\nMeet your guide: \nBob Allen is the author of Wildflowers of Orange County and the Santa Ana Mountains and has taught natural history\, entomology\, botany\, and photography throughout Southern California for decades. \nHe attended Saddleback College in Mission Viejo\, then California Polytechnic State University\, San Luis Obispo. In 1982\, Cal Poly awarded him a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental and Systematic Biology. In 2006\, he received his Master of Science degree in Environmental Studies from California State University\, Fullerton. Bob is a Research Associate at the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden and a Research Associate in Entomology at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. He is now working on a book about California’s pollinating insects.
