Don’t Miss the Boat!
Crystal Cove Conservancy is hosting our fourth annual members’ whale watching cruise on Saturday, April 21. This yearly event is one of the many ways we say thank you to our generous supporters. All members at the Cove Keeper membership level ($100) and above will receive an email invitation with RSVP required.
Our flagship education program, the Marine Protected Area (MPA) Citizen Science Cruise, takes to the water each year, inviting thousands of junior high and high school students to help scientists and resource managers monitor Crystal Cove State Park’s marine conservation area.
In addition to spotting whales (hopefully), the members’ cruise also offers the opportunity to experience the MPA Citizen Science program in action, as our Education team will be aboard.
The MPA Citizen Science Cruise program is run in partnership with Newport Landing Sportfishing in Newport Harbor. Since its inception in 2012, the program has grown quickly and is now serving more students than ever before, with over 60 programs booked for the 2017-2018 school year. Many of the participating students come from Title 1 schools, whose participation is underwritten by generous donors who contributed to the program at the annual Soiree fundraiser held in early October.
