Donors Make the Difference
“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” –Aesop
Last year, we asked our CCA donors to consider making a year-end gift to support accessibility at Crystal Cove State Park. As always, our donors came through, with gifts ranging from $10 to $4,000, enabling CCA to purchase three new beach wheelchairs, support programs serving the Braille Institute of Anaheim, and fund scholarships for Title 1 schools. Because of your generosity, elderly and disabled visitors and students from underserved public schools are able to experience firsthand the beauty of Crystal Cove’s beaches, tide pools and hiking trails.
Each year, Crystal Cove hosts thousands of students from dozens of schools. Through our education programs, we are leveraging the natural and cultural resources of the Cove to make lasting change in the young people who will become our planet’s stewards.
At the heart of our education programs is the notion that if you can get students involved in authentic scientific research in the field, students will build real bonds with the work and with the natural world that can create lasting commitment to the environment and environmental sciences.
Whether through our on-the-water programs in the Marine Protected Area or coastal field science programs at the Berns Environmental Study Loop in Moro Canyon, students participate in data collection for ongoing research projects that provide important information for scientists and park resource managers in conservation science. Data is uploaded to shared databases accessed by working researchers and scientists and add to a growing body of research on local conservation efforts.
Support from our donors means that more students from more schools than ever before will be able to participate in CCA education programs – students from as nearby as Laguna Beach and Newport Beach and as far away as Victorville and San Bernardino – with the majority of funding supporting the participation of our most underserved Title 1 schools.
The holiday season is upon us and your gift can make a real difference in the life of the Cove and the lives of those who visit. Please consider making your year-end, tax-deductible gift today and for those on your holiday gift list, consider giving the gift of membership and all the perks that go along with it.
