Celebrate Art at Crystal Cove

What is it about the beauty of nature that we find so inspiring? The curve of a wave, the sound of the wind, sunflowers on the bluffs, a pelican soaring overhead, all evoke such strong emotional connections to our senses. It’s no wonder that a place as beautiful as Crystal Cove has brought so many artists together to share their love of Crystal Cove through their art. For three years now, we have hosted our Art in the Park Celebration, in a special partnership with Crystal Cove Conservancy and Crystal Cove State Park. We invite you to take part in this special bond between nature and art. Come join us on Saturday March 30 from 10am to 4pm!

Wander through the Historic District to find workshops, performances and activities. In the Education Commons you will find our Spring Bazaar and sea glass jewelry making with Rick Boufford. The Promenade will be filled with watercolor painting led by Pamme Turner of the Saddleback Emeritus Institute. Our beautiful “Beaches” Cottage #13 will feature Native American storytelling and basket weaving from Jacque Nunez of the local tribe; the Juaneño Band of Mission Indians/Acjachemen Nation. And in Cottage #22, will be featuring a delightful squid dissection at 11am, where visitors will learn about the anatomy of squids, and then make an art piece with squid ink. Visitors can sign up for a Nature Poetry Workshop with writer Thea Gavin at 1pm, which will explore the connection to nature through writing. Sprinkled throughout the park will be musical performances from Cal State Fullerton New Music Ensembles. More information on Art in the Park can be seen here.

In further celebration of art at Crystal Cove, our Spring Art show will also be happening during this same weekend, taking place from Friday March 29 through Sunday March 31th. The art show will kick off with a reception on Friday March 29, with live music, refreshments, as well the artists whose work will be featured. Cost is $20 to the General Public, and $10 for Conservancy members. Saturday through Sunday the show will then be opened to the public. On Saturday you can enjoy our bazaar which will feature products from local craftswomen and tradesmen. It is a fantastic way to enjoy art inspired by Crystal Cove, enjoy the beautiful scenery, and give back to the park. More information can be found here.
