A Snowless Winter Wonderland, Crystal Cove’s 21st Annual Beach Tree Lighting Event!

At Crystal Cove State Park, the holidays are the most wonderful time of the year.  Ribbon and wreathes line the pathways and light strewn cottages glow into the night.  Waves crash behind the candy cane decorated columns of Cottage #46.  A lavishly decorated tree stands above the beach, the sun illuminating its branches as it sinks below the horizon.  A snowless winter wonderland in the heart of Southern California.

Each year, these merry tidings begin at the tree lighting.  A day of fun festivities to usher in a month of holiday cheer.  Create a festive craft, eat a snack, and sit with Santa in his beach side escape.  Stay until dark and watch as a twinkling lit tree adds another star to the nighttime sky.

This year Crystal Cove Conservancy is celebrating our 21st Annual Beach Tree Lighting Ceremony on Saturday, December 2nd, 2017 at 5:15 p.m.

Founder and Vice President, Laura Davick began this tradition over two decades ago by decorating the Cove with thousands of tiny lights, a 35-foot tree on the sand, and star at the top of the TV antenna on the bluff.  This once small tradition to bring the cove community together has now blossomed into a grand event filled with friends and family from all over coming together to share in their love for the cove.  “We’re so excited to welcome our many friends, families, and their children to join us for the tree lighting. From all of us at Crystal Cove Conservancy, we want to give thanks to our many members and supporters and this entire community for making our mission possible here at Crystal Cove State Park,” says Laura. “This is our “covey” way of kicking off the holiday season with all of YOU!”

Our celebration is jam-packed with festive activities you will not want to miss!

Starting at 10 am, find the perfect gifts for your loved ones at the holiday beach bazaar, which features treasures from many local artisans.  Express your own inner artistry by crafting a holiday decoration and learning how to make your own jewelry with sea glass straight from the beach. Be sure to grab some complimentary treats and beverages provided by The Beachcomber Café while listening to jolly carolers sing your favorite holiday tunes as you wait for Santa’s arrival.  When the sun sets, gather around the tree and wait for the lights to bring it to life. This year, we are partnering up with Make-A-Wish Orange County and the Inland Empire to make a child’s wish come true by bestowing to them the nights greatest honor: to pull the switch and light up everyone’s night!

The Tree Lighting ceremony is free to attend; with a $15-day use fee or $5 per hour required per vehicle. Early arrival is recommended as parking is a first come first serve basis. Guests can park in Los Trancos or Pelican Point lots. The Beachcomber shuttle bus will be available from the Los Trancos Parking Lot for $1.50 each way. Additional shuttle service will be provided for Pelican Point parking lots (P-1,P-2,P-3, P-4). Carpooling or car services like Uber or Lyft are recommended as the Los Trancos parking lot usually fills to capacity.
