Crystal Cove’s Holiday Magic
From now until the end of the year, as you step into the Crystal Cove Historic District you will be transported to Christmas paradise. Thousands of vintage lights shimmer on cottage rooftops. Giant candy canes, holiday wreaths, mistletoe, and fanciful snowmen are scattered throughout the Park. As you approach the beach, you see the cutest reindeer family surrounded by a beautiful Christmas tree in the sand with the sun sinking into the horizon. There’s really nothing like it and nothing quite as magical as this Christmas Cove paradise.
Ever wonder who brings this magic to the Cove?
Well, every year right after Thanksgiving we have a very small group of Santa’s helpers who work hard from morning to dusk making sure every part of the Historic District looks as jolly as can be. Without these incredible volunteers Crystal Cove would not have Christmas magic. These volunteers aren’t just your typical volunteers, some have been coming back for over a decade just to make sure Crystal Cove is dressed up for the holiday season.
Mike and Carol Fenderson, two of our amazing volunteers who happen to be original “covite” residents, have been here from the start, when this tradition began. “I love volunteering year after year because I get to spend the day at Crystal Cove surrounded by my closest friends, perfecting every decoration in preparation for the annual tree lighting” says Mike Fenderson – What could be better?!
Make sure you stop by Crystal Cove in the next couple of weeks to enjoy all the holiday decorations. Take your family photo in front of the adorned Christmas tree, kiss your sweetheart under the mistletoe arch, and gaze at all the beautiful vintage lights throughout the Historic District.
Special thanks to Mike and Carol Fenderson, Nick Bradley, Joan McCallister, Margaret Lown, Virginia Webber, Richard Swinney, Trevor Swinney, and Suzy (Mark’s Mom.)
They may be a small group, but our volunteers sure know how to share their big love for Crystal Cove through their joyful holiday spirit and enthusiasm. Crystal Cove Conservancy thanks you all from the bottom of our heart. Thank you and Happy Holidays to all!
